History and Theory of Architecture
Many of you have been asking questions regarding the history and theory of architecture.
Here is a short reading list of some of the most important works related to those topics that might be of interest. Feel free to head down to the library to browse through any of them. You may even find some of the manifestos quite entertaining.
Architectural Theory:
Learning from Las Vegas; Venturi Scott Brown
Towards a New Architecture; Le Corbusier (modern architecture)
Delirious New York; Rem Koolhaas (most contemporary)
Programs and Manifestos on 20th Century Architecture; Conrad Ulrich
Urban Theory:
Life and Death of Great American Cities; Jane Jacobs
Image of the City; Kevin Lynch (studies concentrated on Boston, might seem more relevant while at the GSD)
Landscape Theory:
Recovering Landscape; Ed. James Corner
Architecture History:
Modern Architecture Since 1900; William J. Curtis
Modern Architecture: A Critical History; Kenneth Frampton

spatial operations
TUESDAY 6/23
11-meet in studio:
I have prepared a lecture on spatial operations. This will hopefully provide you with more insight into what you started exploring with your first model and section, which will be carried into your second iteration.
12-studio:
Desk Crits - these will be brief as I want to try to see everyone within the first hour so that you can continue working on the second model/section.
2-photo lecture
I arranged for Brad Crane, the media coordinator, to meet with you guys to discuss model photography.
3ish-drawing lesson
Brett will be back around to start the next drawing assignment plus teach the fundamentals of axonametric drawings.
until 6-studio
Paired Desk Crits - These will be somewhere between the small group pinups we had last week and an individual desk crit.
For those of you whom I did not get to see today, we will make time to have a more general 1-on-1 chat later this week.
